Respite Services

What is a Respite Centre?

“Respite” means an interval or to have a break. Respite care is designed to give to those who have the responsibility of providing full time care to loved ones, short term relief or “respite” form their caring roles. We do this by taking your loved ones into our care for an greed period of time.

Programs and activities at the Respite Centre are designed wherever possible, to meet the expressed wishes and identified needs to individual respite members. Emphasis is placed not on an individual’s disabilities, but rather on his/her abilities. It is an active (where you do things) rather than a passive (where others do it all for you) program.

An emergency bed is available for clients who are feeling unwell or need a short rest.

You will receive a Respite program for each month with the menu that will be served in the respite centre. If you cannot eat these meals, you will need to bring your own meal. At times when we go on an outing, you may be asked to buy your own lunch. We will give prior notice and approximates on meals cost.
Philosophy
Burringilly has philosophy of maintaining the maximum level of independence of its clients. Where improvements of independence can be made, we will teach, encourage and motivate clients to achieve these goals which will assist them to be more independent.

Assessment

A complete assessment of your needs in regards to Respite will be conducted by the Branch Manager, taking into account the relatives, friends and other resources available to you. Specific days of attendance will be agreed by you and the Branch Manager. Please tell us if you have any special needs. Every year we do ask for Doctor letters stating you medical condition and of any changes to your medication.
